KATHARINE HAYHOE

Climate scientist & communicator

Katharine Hayhoe

Katharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist who mastered the harder science: talking about climate change with people who don't want to hear it. From her home in Texas she has spent years in the rooms most climate communicators avoid – churches, community halls, conservative audiences.

Her method is the opposite of the shouting match: start from what you share – faith, family, the local economy – and connect climate to the values people already hold. In a polarized world, she argues, respectful and reciprocal conversation is itself a climate solution. The evidence of her work suggests she is right.
